James Joyce – Ulysses

Ulysses was published 1922.
The time span of this long and complex novel is one single day, 16th June 1904.
The novel describes a day in the life of two characters, Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus.
Joyce describes the interior and exterior worlds of his characters.
Interior monologue and the stream of conciousness are used to recreate the character’s most intimate and random thoughts.
This novel, along with Finnegans Wake, is considered a prototype of the psicoanalitical form of writingJoyce was clearly influenced by the psicoanalisis because of his exploration through different states of conciousness, the use of dreams and simbolism similar to the psicoanalitical free association.
